Buying a Car? Learn About the Car Warranty Options

Car manufacturers offer warranties as a way to protect your investment and minimize the expenses of owning the car if a sudden problem develops. A powertrain warranty lasts for many years and covers most of the engine, transmission and drive train. It doesn't cover the battery.

A bumper-to-bumper warranty lasts for a year or two. It offers coverage for more of the vehicle's parts, such as the heating and air conditioning, audio and electronics systems. It also covers the brake rotors, most of the engine, the exhaust and the transmission. The bumper-to-bumper warranty does not cover the car's tires, battery, brake pads or seat damage.
